I have just finished a series of lectures and workshops at Ipswich Hospital NHS Trust in the United Kingdom. We have spent a week discussing and learning many of the leadership lessons in Goal Play! (You can read more here and here.) Dozens of copies of the book were distributed to doctors, nurses, and other staff members.
As a going away present, I was given an official jersey of the Ipswich Town Football Club, affectionately known as “The Tractor Boys” because of the rural area in which the town in located. (The soccer club was established in 1878 and is the only fully professional club in Suffolk. By the way, Wikipedia reports that it was in the 1880’s that the term “soccer” originated in England, as an Oxford “-er” abbreviation of the word “association,” from “association football.”)
You see me here with the hospital’s director of operations, John Watson.
The Tractor Boys used to be managed by Roy Keane, my all-time favorite player.
